Revival!

Monday, September 07, 2009

With Sim reviving his blog, I'm somewhat motivated to resurrect my dead blog.

It'll be a terrible waste of the nice layout and banner Crissy and Xin did too!

So I figured, what's the best way my blog generates traffic?

The answer came quite naturally, kiasu-ness. :D

Quick and simple, the best games are those that only require one button! Avoid obstacles and make your escape!!

Dump your high scores in the Cbox!!

So to get the ball rolling, I went.. 2783m. :D

To further aggravate your kiasuness..

I had a most interesting dream last night.

I dreamt that I was walking into a classroom of Subang Utama, my old secondary school. As I walked in the class I see a small group of my old 5 Zeta classmates listening intently to Pn. Lim Bee Lan. For some reason she was teaching accounting instead of math, but she still had her trusty mini-speaker attached to her waist. :D

Baffled, I asked the class monitor Yoke Yin why were we had to attend class even though we've already university students. She then explained how these classes were some sort of extra classes and were optional, thus explaining why only half the class came.

So I took a seat and started chatting with some of my old school mates. I can't remember the details, but we started goofing off and having a blast. A sweet momory of how fun it was to be in school in the company of good friends. :)

Thanks to the dream I woke up a little late for Sunday worship, but that warm fuzzy feeling made it all worth it. A divine sign for a massive Zeta reunion maybe? :D We'll see!

Some J-rock band in my uni played the Doraemon theme song. Freaking cute.

How anyone not smile to the intro played on electric guitar? :D

Then the band starts marching in beat to the rhythm. Pure gold. xD

The Great Escapade!

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

I've always been an big fan of traveling, probably evident by the amount of petrol I burn each week driving around with my old silver Honda around. I've always enjoyed going to a place that's unfamiliar to me, taking in new sights and absorbing the different culture of a new place.

I must have got it from my dad, a man who shares the same passion for the hobby. He has seen so much of the world I probably can't name you half the places he has been if I tried! How I envy the many gorgeous cites he has been to, New York, London..

Being blessed in his career, I've also been fortunate enough to see a lot of the world with my own eyes when he takes my family on holidays. Being a 4th year engineering student about to embark into the working world soon, I always hope that I'd be able to do as well as he did financially and take my future kids on trips like he did.

One of my ultimate dream travel locations would be to see with my own eyes the lost city of Machu Picchu in South America, to look out into the now deserted ruins which lay in the Peruvian Andes. However, being a mere student I don't quite have the financial capabilities to fund my trip there yet! That dream is put on hold for now, but that doesn't stop me from persuing my other dream holiday destinations!

Deep in Cambodia, lies the ruins of the once powerful city of Angkor and its grand temple, Angkor Wat. The site has been another dream holiday location of mine. Just as much mystery and culture, and so much closer to home!

So I now answer the question, "If you could travel anywhere, which MAS Stimulus Package will you use and why?"

My answer? To Siem Reap - Angkor International Airport with the Weekend Getaway MAS Stimulus Package to visit one of my dream holiday locations, at a fraction of the price compared to a trip to South America! :)

Simplicity at its best!

Genius!

What a brilliant idea!

If you've never had to adjust the time for daylight savings you might not realize the significance of the clock in the picture above.

All you have to do to toggle daylight savings on or off is to tip the clock over!!

So smart!

Of course there's the event of accidentally tipping the clock over and arriving an hour early or late for an event.. lol.

Sometimes the best solution for a problem is the simplest.

Like the illegal parking problem they had down the road from my place! Will mention that some other time.

Task no.2

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

Hurrah!

Project 2 completed!! xD
Thanks to the ridiculous amount of dust that needed to be cleaned-up after drilling 4 holes in the wall, I'm behind in my much needed revision by about 2 hours.

Ah heck! I'm loving the new guitar holder in my room. :)

I might have put it a wee bit too high.

Oh well..

Now to get the sofa bed up in my room again!

Gotta ♥ Creative!

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

Finally!

Hurrah for mid-semester brakes!

A week where I don't have to worry about preparing for labs, finishing up reports or seeing my supervisor!

For the week I'm gonna things slow, get some personal projects done and to study at my own pace for the upcoming mid-terms.

I compiled for myself a list of things I want to do during the break, one of which concerns my beloved non-functional Creative Zen.

I got my good ol' 8GB Creative Zen while I was in Australia. It was a loyal friend, providing many hours of solid audio entertainment during my travels on foot, on the bus, aboard a train or in a plane. The Zen supplied relief for times when my friends and I would otherwise be bored out of our skulls. Amazing how much joy a splitter cable can bring!

It died a few months back while I was charging it using a generic mains-powered USB charger. Simon assured me that Creative products are fickle and will spring back to life in a few days like his player did.

It never did. sigh..

So today I set off to the Creative Service Center in Endah Parade to get it repaired.

Upon arriving at the place, I passed the dead player to the technician to be inspected. I was hoping it could be easily brought back to life with simple part replacement at a minimal fee, but unfortunately the situation wasn't so simple.

Apparently the hard disk was fried. Repair cost would amount up to 300 ringgit, IF they had the parts. They didn't have stock for the replacement hard disk my model needed, so repairs couldn't be done.

The technician then asked if I wanted a brand new Creative Zen X-Fi player for RM300.

The revised model of my dead player with 8GB of space which retails for about RM580 was offered to me at RM300.

He explains that it's company policy that if repairs cannot be arranged, they will offer a brand new unit for the estimated price of repairs. Initially only a 6 month warranty was given, like they would normally give after a repair job. I asked if it could be a 1 year warranty and he went out of his way to make it happen.

It was a really tempting offer but I wasn't sure initially. After visiting an internet cafe within the mall to check for reviews on the player and making some calls to get the blessings of a certain individuals, I decided to bite the bait. :p

So here it is!

Lady GaGa is my guilty pleasure. :p

Must ikat perut a little for the rest of the month, but overall I'm overjoyed to have a music player again!

Creative so rocks. What awesome customer service! xD

Can't wait to complete the other tasks in my list!

USB toaster can burn headlines right on your toast!

Lol!

I would print lecture notes on them! Reminds me of one of Doraemon's gadgets. Anyone knows which? :D

Earth Hour!

So nice of them to have it in Malaysia this year!

Reminds me so much of my time spent in Aussie! We played mindless group games outside in the cold while Earth Hour was on. :D

It's so much easier to participate in Earth Hour when you all you own is a single light switch in your room, lol.

Mary is super happening man. She knew what Earth Hour was and started turning off lights around the house at 8.30pm.

Super semangated too! She turned off every single light in the house and lit a candle for downstairs. Lol!

"Macam kampung!" she says. Haha.

Culture

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

I was accompanying Hao Zhi in the cafeteria the other day. I wanted to get a snack and he needed to wait in the cafeteria for Monash Swimming Club members to pass him their photograph for the club membership card.

While randomly looking through the photos he already has, it reminded me of Australia and a culture there that I found interesting.

To register to live on campus we had to fill up a form and attach 2 photographs of ourselves. Our photos were then later seen in a master list of everyone who lived in Richo Hall.

All international students (us Malaysians for example) had pictures like the above. Studio photos of us looking straight into the camera with a nice shirt on and a blue background at the back.

The funny thing was, you could easily distinguish an Australian from the list just by glancing at the picture.

Because they were Facebook pictures!

Forget the serious face and the blue background! Most of them gave a picture of themselves partying somewhere with a funny hat on and a drink in hand. In some pictures you can see half a person beside them, cropped off the photo to be used for application purposes!

It came across as strange at first, but clearly the idea is brilliant! At least they know that the photo they gave of themself looks good! We have to use the photo we took at the studio regardless if we looked like the rear end of a horse.

So I told all that to Hao Zhi. He gave a laugh and then said, "Something like this?"

He took out 2 photos from the plastic bag he had beside him.

Lo and behold, there it was! A Facebook picture!

No surprise where the owner of the photo is from! Hahahaha!

And you can even see half a guy in the photo! What did I tell ya? xD

Speaking of culture..

While rounding around the uni's parking lot looking for a spot, I couldn't help but notice why the cars in front of me that passed this certain parked car kept waving their fists in the air and curse in anger.

Then I passed the car.

I certainly felt like waving my fists in the air!

What are you BLIND?! Ayoooooooooooo!!

Of boo boo's and procrastinating

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

I made a massive boo boo today. >.<

I'm so sorry!!

Lately I noticed that if I'm thinking about something, say, "I need to fetch Tina from uni in an hour", I'll accidentally say words that relate to the thing I'm thinking about. For example, accidentally calling Xin who's sitting beside me, Tina.

Gah.

Just in case you were wondering, that example was not the boo boo I made, haha.

I am procrastinating.

Need to do research on which is more suitable for my project, MiWi or ZigBee.

Okay. time to hit the PDF files.

Yet another appendicitis case

Thank you all for your prayers. He's fine now, back at home and recovering slowly.

If you didn't know, Judson has been having abdominal pains since he came back on Saturday from Temerloh. We went to the docs and he suspected Jud ate something bad. He did however warn us that if the pain moved to his right side it could be appendicitis.

True enough the next day the pain moved to the right side and we took him to the hospital. We was diagnosed to have an inflamed appendix and had surgery to remove it the very same day.

He's back at home now, walking around like nothing happened. What a punk. Haha! =)

Jud told me that he will get his appendix in a jar soon. Lol.. Like Simon said, another chapter to add to the already very thick book that is Judson. xD

Enlightenment

Saturday, March 14, 2009

The greatest mysteries of man are often understood at a mamak stall in a late hour, a cold glass of iced Milo in hand and with 3 other buddies to spend the evening with.

What better place to learn life's lessons from?

For the first time in my tertiary education ever, I have an ENTIRE DAY OFF!

Of course, it's only because there's no fixed timetable for thesis work.

But still! A day off!

Which I'll be spending in uni anyway for research and lab work..

Stress la, and it's ONLY week 3!

Can't wait for the the holidays! Plans are already being made, lol!

(T_T)

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

We just got the results.

Our Final Year project allocations.

Basically, I'll be working on the topic given to me for an entire year.

We submitted 5 topics, in order of preference.

I had my eyes on one.. My first preference.

"Remote Control of Home Appliance Using Mobile Touch Screen."

It sounded so magical!

I had everything figured out, what features I wanted to implement, the way I wanted to approach development. Heck, I had an entire Gantt chart worked out in my head.

But I didn't get it.

Darn you Marcus!! lol.

Oh well, it could be worse. Could have gotten my 5th choice instead. Happened to a friend of mine. Poor guy.

So the topic I'll be working on for an entire year is..

"Home Security and Climatic Control with Wireless Sensor Networks"

It's not the topic that's bad, it's more that the lecturer that's supervising the project has a different approach to supervising compared with other lecturers.

Sigh, Lord.. I believe you wouldn't have given me this topic if you knew that I couldn't handle it. I have to trust that your ways are higher than mine.

I have to trust.

Stressed?

Thursday, March 05, 2009

After 6 long yet hilarious hours in Jon's room messing with our instruments, his voice and Adobe Audition, we were finally able to reap the fruits of our labor!

Presenting!.. Our bad day. xD

As tiring as it was, what a fantastic way to de-stress. Especially after worrying over my Final Year Project. Nothing like music to soothe the soul.

Feels like the slowest week ever. Guess that's what happens when you suddenly jump back into uni after a 4 month holiday.

Progress?

Monday, February 23, 2009

You know what I really don't like?

Progress bars that don't really show the progress.

The kind that moves regardless if any progress is being made or not.

And when the progress bar reaches 100%, it just resets to zero and does the whole thing all over again!

And the best part? When the software hangs and the progress bar still moves!!

What nonsense!!

Why put a progress bar when it does not actually show the actual progress??!

Might as well put a gif image of a dancing cat. At least then I'll be entertained!

Return of the comeback!

Monday, February 16, 2009

After a good month of no blogging whatsoever, the Noodle Shop officially reopens again! With a PC again to blog from I have no excuse not to keep this site from dying! 50% off on all items!

The Cbox has come to a complete standstill, very bad! Not a post there in weeks. Hopefully with continuous updates the customers will continue visiting the Noodle Shop just like old times!

So what has been going on? For one, I'm STILL on vacation. Another 2 weeks left to go in fact. Soon my massive 4 month Uni break will come to a sad end. Gone are the carefree days of taking each week as it comes and letting tomorrow worry about itself! Lord give me strength to face my FINAL year in UNI. My brain has already turned into mush.

My goodness, I never thought I'll see the day. I'm finally a FOURTH YEAR ENGINEERING STUDENT! Not long now!!

I need to get back into the habit of going online on MSN, reading blogs and facebooking. After my PC died I just got used to not doing those things regularly, which is a good thing I suppose in some ways.

Been busy lately with the Sunday School Carnival preparations! Spent an entire day today with Simon constructing shoebox buildings and firing BB guns at targets. A day well spent! All for the kids in the name of good clean fun!

Can't wait for our second booth preparations to start! It will rock.

Going, going, gone!

Friday, January 16, 2009

For some odd reason, all things electronic around me seem to be failing
all of a sudden in the past 2 weeks.

First was my PC acting funny, then my beloved Creative Zen mp3 player got fried while it was recharging.

And today, I woke up to find that my PC doesn't turn on anymore.

(TT_TT)

Kinda hard to reinstall Windows when my laptop's CD drive hasn't been working much for the past 2 years.

Darn you Acer!

And I sent it for servicing so many dozen times!

USB boot doesn't work because my PC doesn't support it.

WARGH!!!

And I come back from Subang Parade to find that our living room TV is also bust.

Must be something I ate in Chiang Mai..

As Ken puts it, "If the old doesn't go, the new cannot come!".

It's not that simple unfortunately! (TT_TT)

Tina says she'll present my case to my father. lol. Future lawyer for sure, that girl.

HELP!

Thursday, January 15, 2009

Wah!

I'm in Blogger!

My goodness, I've been having an awful time with my PC.

Ever since January started, for some particular reason my PC can't access certain sites..

Facebook, Gmail, Blogger, Hotmail, MSN Messenger. Sigh..

Was hoping it was a router problem or something, but on my sisters PC all these sites work just fine. Meaning that the problem is probably my computer instead.

I've tried my hands on every "solution" I could find. Disabling the firewall, messing with the registry and MTU values, disabling add-ons on Firefox, changing settings, resetting those settings.

GAH!!

What on earth is wrong with you?!?! *prods PC*

If you have ANY idea what might be wrong, PLEASE CALL ME!!

Gah.. sucks having OCD about computer issues.

If all else fails I just might need to.. SOB... reformat my PC tomorrow.

The last time I did that I ended up with more problems that I originally had.

Why do you fail me so electronics?? First my beloved Creative Zen dies, now PC issues I can't fix.

EDIT!: Just found out that it works perfectly fine when I connect my PC directly to my modem. Could it be the router after all??
