Just looking at it makes me happy! Onward to the next wall! xD

Small thoughts

Tuesday, April 29, 2008

Just printed another 70 photos to put my wall, can't wait to stick them up! =D My goal is to fill my prison wall completely with photos, haha! Happy with how it turned out! Pretty Cheap too!

Too bad that'll have to wait, got a mid-term tomorrow. Kinda late for a mid-term but yeah.. ECE3073 - Computer Systems.

It's funny, this is the first time (I think..) that I've to sit for an open book test. It feels weird la, I'm worried but not worried. Lol, how on earth do I explain.. I rather enjoy this subject, though it's a hair-ripping experience at times, it's satisfying when your software works as it should.

Right after the written test is a Lab Test, they give us a question and we have to produce the microprocessor and write the needed software. Hope I can produce the microprocessor without much hiccups this time round, the software to generate the processor has a thousand and one reasons not to work. Must practice a few times tonight I suppose.

It's awfully peaceful and relaxing this week. The calm before the storm maybe? I'm quite sure next week will be murder again. Hahaha, better enjoy the week to its fullest!

Happy 21st Titus!

Monday, April 28, 2008

At the stroke of midnight we coaxed Titus to Jun Wei's room where we all surprised him! haha. What fun it was! =D

Happy Birthday you sexy thing! xD

*shiver*

Today's probably the coldest day ever throughout our 2 and a half month stay here. It was a frosty 7 degrees this morning and a chilly 12 degrees in the middle of the afternoon, and it's only bound to get colder. Kind of a wake up call that autumn is already here. *Sigh..* So long sweet summer.. I can relate pretty well now to the song of the same title by Dashboard Confessional. (*sings* I hate the winter..)

For the first time I had to whip out my black winter jacket that protected me through the miserable Chinese winter in Shanghai. The locals here are true heroes, walking around in just a t-shirt, shorts and awfully thin jackets. Haha, I was never fond of temperatures below 15 degrees, I'm just not built for the cold. (a.k.a. made-in-malaysia). At least my lips don't break out in fish-lips (sores) anymore, so maybe I'll get used to the cold in due time. =) Here's hoping!

The only thing the cold weather is good for is increasing the syok-ness of sleeping and naps by 5000 points. xD syokkkkk..

Oh! I totally forgot to put this up last time!

Wahhhhhhhhh... xD

I'm so watching it on Thursday! xD I don't expect it to be great, only freakin' cool. My IronMan toy collection as a kid is only second to my Ninja Turtles collection. =P

Nakama

Friday, April 25, 2008

I'm falling sick after so many late nights, it's only to be expected I guess. I'm so glad that the coming week will be relatively less busy than the previous ones, it'll be a good time to recover. I've drank literally buckets of water to avoid getting sick but it didn't really help. In the end all it did was greatly increase the times I had to visit the toilet.

My neck area is a little swollen for some reason, my medical friends say it's about the lymph nodes or something. If it were any more swollen it would look like have no chin. Lol, it's making me look chubby. Think Xin would have a good laugh if she were to see it.

Jian Wei asked me if it was the first time I've gotten sick away from home. True, it is. I can only imagine what a horrible feeling it would be if you have to take care of yourself when you're really ill and there's no one else around.. I truly thank God for such wonderful friends who offered me dinner today, and for the many others who offered me panadol. I'd know who to look for if I ever run out. xD

Reminds me of the time I had a massive fever last year, and Judson was the one sponging me in the middle of the night. Ahahahaha.. He'd always make fun of the way I was shivering and making noises while he sponged me. In a funny way it makes me miss him. =)

OCF Easter Camp

We played a few rounds of Mafia after dinner. =D Such a blast is was. There were so many innocents who got killed by the town because of funny unintentional actions. xD I picked up a few tricks from the last time we played mafia in our RBS visit to Camerons. Although I still think the people back home (Crissy, Suleen and James) would probably still be able to read me like a book, as if there were flashing neon lights on my forehead or something. haha! xD

Mamak Night!!

Sunday, April 20, 2008

Some brilliant soul came up with the idea to have a "Mamak Night" dinner theme. A night where everything served for dinner was nothing but food from a good 'ol mamak back home. =D

We had..

Kangkung belacan and Nasi goreng!

Nasi Lemak!

ROTI CANAI!!

Kari Ayam!

Maggi Goreng!

Agar-agar!

And of course, what mamak session will be complete without...

What a night it was.. =D When I took a taste of the Nasi Lemak and sipped from my mug of ice cold Milo, for a magical moment I really felt like I was home.. (Jian Wei, your Nasi Lemak is the bomb.) I haven't eaten so much in a long time, there was so much food!!! We had to play games and punish the losers by getting them to eat the extras! hahahaha..

It just doesn't get any better than this. =)

Interlude

Thank you all for your prayers for my grandfather. I've heard news that his operation went smoothly without complications. =) He's recovering well and seems to be responding alright in conversations. All glory to God! =D Do continue praying for the full recovery of his physical and mental health. Thank you again for all your prayers.

It has been quite busy the past few days. Aside from the usual assignments and exams, new responsibilities have been given to me. During my first few weeks here I prayed and asked God where would he want me to serve during my short stay of 2 semesters here, and boy has he answered them. =) a little too well.. ahahahaha!

As much as I enjoy being "just a camper", it seems that God has other plans for me. A few of us newbies in OCF have been picked to organize and run the coming OCF Winter Camp. For most of us it was a major shock, we've barely been here and they want us to run camp. "HAH?!" was most of our reactions when we heard the news. xD We don't even know what winter camp is.. lol. By faith we all took our respective responsibilities. I'm the assistant head and camp worship coordinator.

I find being the Worship Coordinator for camp rather funny. I hardly know any of their songs. To them I seem like the kampung "brethren" boy, still singing hymns and old stuff. aduh...

Then there's the job of being a member of the outreach sub-committee, a much easier task relative to the camp committee. Our OCF helps out in two events in uni, ELP - English Learning Program where we help teach and converse with students who want to improve their english and also GFN - Global friendship night where students from different cultures and backgrounds gather to meet people and just enjoy themselves. We use this events as mission fields to make new friendships and to show God's love. =D Our job is to organize GPL and rally up our group members to join and help out.

Finally, (much to my surprise) the OCF worship team has decided to give me a shot at playing for worship. I was hoping it was for just acoustic guitar but I was put under electric! Argh! The process was rather terrifying, they gathered at one of the members house to just jam. I can't describe how lost I felt, having to learn the songs on the spot while everyone else has heard it a thousand times before, hahahahaha. The only time I came alive was when they suddenly jammed "Sweet Child O' Mine". xD

My goodness, their resident electric guitarist is probably the most gifted electric guitarist I know in person. Sure there's Bernard but this guy.. Fuh... His technical skills are so clean and polished. His theory is solid too.. Really a monster. He can join Li Heng and Bernard in the list of people who send me crying to sleep at night with their guitar playing.

Hopefully this will be a good chance to learn from OCF and improve my guitar playing. Like Jon said, I'll have to play much louder. =P I've always been struggling with the notion that I'm not very good at all, both technically and in music theory. Sigh.. Hopefully this year brings improvement.

Unfortunately, I'll have to put playing for worship aside until next semester. With the winter camp coming up along with assignments and exams I don't thing I can juggle so many things at one go.. Me being new to their material would mean that I would need more time to prepare before practice sessions.

Well, that's basically what I had the past few days. We had A Mamak Night dinner yesterday! Wait for the pics!! =D

Another request for prayer

Thursday, April 17, 2008

Dad just told me over gtalk that his mom (my grandmother) was sent to ICU Sri Kota Medical Centre today in Klang.

I'm not too sure of the details, what I know is that she was too weak to get up. Her blood count very low and needed a blood transfusion. Do remember her in your prayers.

Request for prayer

Thursday, April 10, 2008

This is my grandfather. Maybe you've seen his picture in Kee Ken's blog before. This was taken last Chinese New Year when I was back in Kuantan. I just got off the phone with my mom. A few weeks ago my family noticed that he has been out of character lately. His usual jolly active self has faded and he has become quieter and just sits around at home, saying that he was feeling tired and weak.

He also has been having various memory problems, he now often can't complete his sentences because he forgot what he was talking about. He couldn't even remember who my mom was at one instance was when he was with her the entire day, nor the names of his other children sometimes. It was getting so bad to the point he has forgotten how to smoke, something he has been doing for at least half a century. All these complications were too sudden to be because of old age, he's a healthy strong man for someone as old as he is..

My mom took him to the doctor and discovered that there's a blood clot in his brain, which is causing the change in personality and memory loss. The doctors suggested surgery to correct this, however the procedure will have its risks because of his age. The operation is tomorrow, they brought it forward because the doctors wanted to correct it as soon as possible.

Do pray for him, that the surgery will be successful without and complications and that my grandfather will return back to full health, to the strong macho jolly grandfather he used to be..

Defendius!

Locking and opening doors a little too easy for you?

Presenting, the Defendius door chain!

Lol, I thought of you straight away Ken. xD Looks like just the product for the self-proclaimed Raja Puzzle types.

I was wondering though, if the chain is so long it won't do a very good job at locking the door would it. The gap would be so big my Matthew and I could probably fit through it.

Just wanted to share a quick post before I drown in my assignment. I think it's fascinating how everything else seems more fun or more urgent to do when you need to finish an assignment. I did loads of stuff today, mostly house-keeping matters. Everything but my assignment that is. ahahahahaha..

This one put a grin on my face. =D Hope it works for you too.
